the way I see it

Early this morning I met my dear friends Rick Allen, Dan Ackerman, and Mark Babcock at Starbucks. Rick and Dan hadn't arrived yet, so Mark and I we were enjoying the coffee and catching up on the last week. I took a moment to read my cup from the series "the way I see it" and then started to read Mark's. I said "no way"! The cup was authored by Frankie...also known at "homeboy". I have known Frankie from the early years...boy it seems like forever ago, when I used to race for the US Cycling Team.

What a great way to start off the day! Oh, if you want to read the cup, just click on the picture.

Well, back to work!

dreamer

One of the things I have wanted to change this year is the amount of family time that we have as a family. We can all be working hard and all to soon our kids grow up, move out and move on. So, tonight we had some family time. The movie of choice was Dreamer.

Let me just confess right now that I love a great "chic-flick." If it's sentimental - I love it. And tonight was no exception... I was crying like a baby. The movie was wholesome with great acting. And I know that some might say that these movies can be predictable but I tend to just tune that out. We watch movies to be united, taken away and entertained. But, I think my boys think I just watch them to have an excuse to cry.

So, hats of to Kurt Russell, Kris Krisofferson, Elisabeth Shue and Dakota Fanning (my favorite). And John Gatins...great screenplay and it's your first job at directing...wow what a talent!

As an extra fun treat click on the music video link here from one of our favorites music artists Bethany Dillon.

And thanks Neesie for figuring out how to do these links so they look great!

foto-boy.com

Over the past several years I would have Torey sit with me while I would edit event after event. I would ask him what his thoughts are about different shots. I always loved his responses because he was always so right-on in his thoughts. How did he know...? So young and talented...he just has it. And he is a gift from God to our family. For Christmas last year he received a Canon 1D and a web site...foto-boy.com but he just hadn't been shooting.

This football year he thought he would be playing but a shoulder injury has kept him sidelined. And it wasn't until recently he was able to throw the ball again.

Well, I needed some help shooting over the past week and so I thought I would have him shoot while I was unable to be at Grant's game. Let me know your thoughts.

I hope you enjoy these images-

Surgery

I never really paid attention in the early years to how much sun I was getting - since I figured I was bullet proof. This past year my mom (who lives next door to us) said to me, "what's that?" as she was pearing at my nose. I hadn't really paid attention to a small spot, but her red alert was going off. So, I went to my doctor of 28 years and he checked me out and sent me to a specialist. They immediately scheduled me for surgery and this week they removed the little (but growing) dark spot. So, the doctors are checking to make sure that it's not cancer and only skin damage.

Gloria, who works with us on Sunday's told me her husband died due to skin cancer...So, I guess the lesson is be pretty careful about skin damage. A few minutes later my dear friends in Kids Church had the children pray for me since I wasn't feeling well. So, this afternoon I am healing - while studying more from some of my digital mentors - and working to make this next year the very best for my clients.

Oh, and a little trick to get pictures of yourself in a mirror: Just look up and aim the lens so that you are looking right into the lens.. works like a charm.
